2021 Local School Board Candidates

Educators put the needs of students first. That’s exactly what we need on local school boards. These experienced educators are running in competitive races for local school board seats in the November 2, 2021 elections.

Extreme, right-wing candidates who peddle conspiracy theories and don’t believe in science have their eyes set on taking over school boards around the country. First they bullied school boards and threatened educators, and now they are running for office themselves. And they’re getting substantial support from right-wing foundations and interest groups.

We’re committed to helping thoughtful, committed educators who want to put their experience to work for students and fellow educators alike.

Kelly Convirs-Fowler for Delegate

Delegate Kelly Convirs-Fowler was an elementary school teacher for seven years, including serving as the grade level chair for the 3rd grade, prior to her election to the Virginia House of Delegates. In 2017, Kelly she defeated an incumbent Republican and made history as the first Filipina elected to the world’s oldest continually meeting representative body.

Now, she’s a top target for anti-public education Republicans, despite withstanding over $1.1 million spent against her in the last two elections. Republican politicians and right-wing special interest groups are funding the campaign against Kelly, with just 8 donors providing over 60% of her opponent’s funding.

Kelly needs the support of educators, parents, students and anyone who knows great schools come from ensuring educators have a seat at the decision-making table.

Eric Gash for Congress

All Americans need more teachers at the table when decisions about our public schools are made in Washington. Eric's experience, as a teacher, coach, and principal will benefit every student, parent, and educator in Western North Carolina and throughout the country.

Defeating Madison Cawthorn must be a national priority for anyone who believes in a free and fair Democracy, and who values leaders who tell the truth, and Eric Gash is the best chance we have to defeat Madison Cawthorn.

Eric grew up attending public schools in Hendersonville, NC, where he still lives with his wife and three children. After some time as an NFL player and a businessman, he found his calling in service to his community, becoming a pastor, teacher, coach, and, eventually, the principal of his alma mater, Bruce Drysdale Elementary.

While Madison Cawthorn has spent years lying about his life, lying about election outcomes he didn't like, lying about vaccines, and bullying Democrats and Republicans, Eric Gash has spent his life teaching, serving as a mentor to kids, and leading a faith community to make a positive difference.
